Visitors to Queenstown & Wanaka have a choice of expeditions on foot, either Privately Guided walks specially tailored to their requirements and ability, or half and full day hikes in small groups.
Guided Nature Walks specialises in nature interpretation. The area is steeped in natural history with river valleys covered in ancient native beech forests, mosses, ferns and alpine flora and a variety of native birdlife is close at hand.

Famous Routeburn Walk
This full day walk in the ancient beech forest of the Mount Aspiring National Park starts with a scenic drive to the northern end of Lake Wakatipu and into the Routeburn Valley. The high snow capped mountains provide a magnificent backdrop for the walk up this beautiful river valley.
Duration: 9 hours (approx)
Walking time: 3 to 5 hours (optional)
Walking distance: 16kms (easy)
Track: Well formed easy walking track (8kms each way)
Departures: 8.00am (year round)
Highlights: Spectacular snow-capped mountain and lake views, a variety of bird life and super-natural ancient native beech forest, mosses, lichens and ferns, waterfalls and river gorge
Matukituki Valley - Rob Roy Glacier
This full day walk starts from Queenstown with a scenic drive over the Crown Range (or pick-up from Wanaka) and into the Matukituki Valley west of Lake Wanaka in the Mount Aspiring National Park. Walk up through beech forest to view the magnificent Rob Roy Glacier. High snow capped mountains provide a magnificent backdrop for the drive and walk up this beautiful river valley.
Duration: 9 hours (approx)
Walking time: 5 hours (approx)
Walking distance: 8kms (reasonable fitness required)
Track: Well used uneven walking track (3kms each way - 5-600m elevation)
Departures: By arrangement from all Queenstown and Wanaka accommodation

- Maximum of 7 clients per guide (minimum numbers apply)

- Please wear sensible footwear and bring a warm/sun hat, wet/wind/warm clothing for changeable weather and a small daypack
- A reasonable level of fitness will ensure an enjoyable walk
- Picnic lunch is provided (including tea/coffee biscuits)
