Sail Queenstown

Description

Be Part Of New Zealand’s America’s Cup History.

Join the crew and get involved, or just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.

Once off the dock, NZL 14 motors out past the historic white beacon at the entrance to Queenstown Bay. When clear of the reef, a grinding team is called upon to hoist the mainsail, 115ft to the top of the carbon fibre mast.

The headsail is then hoisted and NZL 14 sails through the waters of Lake Wakatipu, with breathtaking sights of the rugged mountain ranges.

Returning to Queenstown Bay under spinnaker, there is time to enjoy the stunning scenery and experience the magic of sailing onboard a grand prix racing yacht. A privilege that is usually reserved for yachting greats – such as Coutts, Conner, and Lipton.

Launched November 2005, the America’s Cup sailing experience aboard NZL 14 is one of the most exciting activities available in Queenstown. NZL 14 is not only part of New Zealand’s America’s Cup history; she also opens up a new dimension to experiencing the only sailing activity on Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding beauty

The Boat

As part of New Zealand's America's Cup history, NZL 14 is an
America's Cup yacht, built specifically for New Zealand's 1992 challenge in San Diego.

Her previous skipper was Russell Coutts, who went on to win the America's Cup three times with Team New Zealand in 1995, 2000 and Alinghi in 2003.

Launched in November 2005 after being trucked from Auckland to Queenstown, NZL 14 is the largest sailing yacht ever to sail the waters of Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown and is the most southern America’s Cup yacht in the world.
