This is a gentle walking paced horse ride in the Dart Valley where you can enjoy the beautiful braided glacial fed rivers and untouched landscapes. The Rees River Trail is a great horse riding option for all levels of rider from 7+ years, giving you the chance to enjoy the spectacular sites of Glenorchy as you build up your confidence on the friendly horses. During the trek, you will see glacier-fed rivers and some of the Middle Earth locations where scenes from Lord of the Rings were shot.

The Rees River Trail 2.5 hour trek is suitable for all levels of riders - walking pace only unless the whole group is more advanced
Dress warmly (especially in winter) with sturdy footwear & long trousers
We advise you to take the following: Sunscreen, bottle of water, hat, shades, insect repellent & of course your camera
You will have some spare time in between activities to explore Glenorchy and purchase lunch at some of the local cafes
This combo is available for self drive only. Please note you will also need to self drive between activities.

We are thinking of booking this week and it’s going to be freezing. How do you keep us dry and warm??

You will be given a windproof jacket on the Jet boat and a jacket for Horse riding, but you need to provide the warm layers yourself. I recommend wrapping up as warm as possible.

On this horse ride do you still get to see scenes from the lord of the rings were filmed and do you get kai(food) or do you bring your own

Hi there, yes you do get to see locations used for Lord of the Rings such as the Misty Mountains and Wizard's Vale. Unfortunately, lunch is not included but you have about an hour between activities so you have time to eat a packed lunch. There are also some really nice cafes and a pub in Glenorchy that do really awesome food so you will have time to stop and eat there too in between your activities.
