Alpine Heli Ski packages are designed around your personal skill level and preference, and the terrain is selected by an experienced guide to provide you with the best possible powder experience. Start your adventure in the morning with a transfer from your Queenstown accommodation to meet your Alpine Heli Ski pilot and guides and receive a full safety briefing. As you soar across snow-capped mountains, the powder is beckoning and excitement brewing for the day ahead.
Upon landing, find your ski or boarding legs and experience the feeling of floating on wild powder down long stretches of untouched backcountry with your Alpine Heli Ski guide. Feel the adrenaline rush as you ride through deep snow and create beautiful fresh lines all the way to the end of the run. The helicopter is waiting at the bottom to take you to the next landing and experience the thrill all over again. Your morning and afternoon powder sessions are broken up with a well-deserved delicious lunch, which you can enjoy with some of the most stunning views from the top of a mountain.
Terrain
Alpine Heli Ski have the largest area of skiable terrain in the Queenstown region, with access to thousands of hectares of terrain across 8 mountain ranges all accessible by helicopter. The southern region of terrain includes Queenstown and Wanaka’s vast mountain ranges, and the northern region boasts some of the longest heli ski runs in New Zealand near Mt Cook. Overall, Alpine Heli Ski have over 400 incredible ski runs to choose from, tailored to the ability of your group, snow conditions and safety on the day.
Heli-ski/Heli-board Guides
The guides at Alpine Heli Ski are highly experienced, personable and passionate about providing the best heli skiing experience possible for fellow skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. All guides are certified for heli ski guiding to New Zealand industry standards, with all senior guides qualified to the highest level of avalanche certification, level 2 avalanche certified. Each winter the guides at Alpine Heli Ski refresh their skills with a pre-season program covering all aspects of safety training to keep you safe on the mountain. Every day before operations, the NZMGA-certified Guiding Director and Snow Safety Officer conduct a comprehensive procedure to manage weather and snow information, evaluate safety and put together an incredible day of heli skiing or boarding for you.
How well do I have to ski to go Heli-skiing?
Alpine Heli Ski offer a fully customised heli skiing experience, designed to suit your skill level. Heli skiing is best suited to strong intermediate skiers or snowboarders keen for an adventure. With such a vast range of terrain to choose from, at Alpine Heli Ski you have the option to take gentle slopes and find your feet on deep powder, or chase steep ridges and giant bowls perfect for experienced powder hunters. Your highly trained and experienced Alpine Heli Ski guide accompanies you throughout the day to advise on the best powder pockets and keep you safe.

- If you are hiring skis or snowboards in Queenstown, Alpine Heli Ski provide complimentary pick up from and return to the rental shop of your choice
- It is essential that skiers hire or bring their own powder skis (or wide skis) for heli skiing, snowboarders can bring the board they would usually use at a ski area
- Bring your helmet, windproof jacket and pants, boots, warm & grippy gloves, sunglasses/goggles, sunscreen and a camera
- Wear casual shoes for the morning pick up
- Make sure you dress as you would for a cold day at the ski field
- Group size is limited to 4-5 guests (ratio 1 guide to 4-5 guests), with a daily capacity of 4 helicopters
- It is recommended to book well in advance
