Service rating:

Horse riding trip was cancelled by the operator due to weather. Unable to reschedule as we were leaving Queenstown so refund was given but was told that the $15 CCP portion of the booking is non-refundable. We don’t think that it is fair for customers to incur all the losses, if the tour is cancelled by the operator, regardless of what the reason is. I understand that the operator should have the right to cancel the tour if they see fit, but then a full refund should be given in such scenario. Policy around CCP is vague and it misleads customers to think that it would provide additional protection to them, but in reality it provides a guaranteed income for Everything NZ, even if their operator cancels the tour. Furthermore, the booking page does not specify what happens when the operator cancels the tour, which means customers are unable to make an informed choice. Not impressed at all, and I hope other customers don’t fall for the same trap.

Product rating:

Operator has full control in cancelling the trip and no policy in place around this. Leaving customers in the dark and will incur losses to the customers if they have also purchased the Change & Cancellation Protection (CCP), even when the cancellation is initiated by the operator. Not a fair and fully transparent arrangement. Tourists should think carefully before booking.

Hi Pauline and I had an amazing ride with Amanda, Sulley, Spud and Murphy. We are beginner riders but we were taught how to handle and ride the horses comfortably, even if Spud had a few other ideas. We highly recommend High Country Horses to anyone at any level. The scenery and experience blew us away

Product rating:

Fantastic experience we recommend it to any one of any ability

Hi is there any transportation provided from Queenstown besides self-drive? Thank you very much for your help.

Hiya Joey, Thanks so much for your enquiry into High Country Horses. I am very sorry at this time these tours are only available for self-drive only! The best way to get out to Glenorchy is via a hire car.

Hi! Im travelling from the Philippines and am a huuuuge Lord of the Rings nerd. I wanted to go on your horse riding tours with my wife. Both of us are of small build and under 80kg.

I am planning to bring some soft props (no weapons or metals) and a bit of costume (just a cloak or cape and maybe a flag) resembling a Rider of Rohan from the movies. Will you allow this?

Thank you and I appreciate your feedback on my query!

Cyril from the Philippines

Hello. I’m interested in booking a tour for my husband and myself on the 4th or 5th October for about a 3 hour ride. I currently have a knee injury which requires me to wear a knee brace. It’s my left knee so I’ll still be able to eat myself into / out of the saddle. Just wanted to make sure this will be alright with you?

This is Jingxi, from SG. My family is travelling to Queenstown this early Dec, and we are keen to book the half day horse riding with you. I have two sons - the younger one is 8 years old. Can he participate?

Thanks,

Hi,
My friend and I are really keen on coming, but we are staying in Queenstown and will not have access to a car, is there any other way of getting there from Queenstown?

Comments

Unfortunately, there are no transport options unless you can drive yourself out to Glenorchy. When are you looking to go? There used to be some options but since covid, these have all gone away. Maybe they will come back this summer!

Hi There!

I wanted to confirm where the meet up point would be and if this would be in Glenorchy?

Just hoping to confirm prior to locking in a group tour on the 8th of July, thanks!

Comments

For the High Country horses tour in Glenorchy, you need to meet at the stables which is just a 10 minute drive past Glenorchy. When we send you the booking confirmation it will have all the details of where to meet and what to bring etc but essentially if you are driving up from Queenstown its just another 10 minutes past the small Glenorchy township over the Rees river bridge towards Paradise.

Hi,

We are 3 adults and 2 kids coming to Queenstown on 25th April. I have few questions for you.

1. My weight is 105kg do you consider for horse riding.
2. One of my daughters age is 5 years old is she can accompany my wife on the same horse.
3.Do you provide transfers from Queenstown.

1.

Thank you for your question about High Country Horses. Unfortunately, the tour operator has a strict maximum weight rule of 95 kg.

Hi, On the everything Queenstown website it says you are available for rides on the 3rd of January but on your High Country Horses website it says you are unavailable for a Rees River trail ride at that time. I'm just checking that you are available before I purchase the trek :)

I am an experienced rider and would like to do the Rees river pro. I am staying with a friend in Kingston who can get me to Queenstown but wondering if there is someway to get to you ? Thanks Judy Christie
