The Milford & Big 5 Glaciers Scenic Flight departs from Queenstown in the early morning, ensuring you have time to enjoy all that Queenstown has to offer for the remainder of your day. If you’re lucky, you might even catch the sunrise as you take off from Air Milford and start your flight path towards Mt Aspiring. The first of the Big 5 glaciers on your scenic flight are Rob Roy and Volta Glacier. The Volta Glacier is the only glacier in the Southern Lakes area to span over 10 hectares. As your flight continues on, encounter breathtaking glaciers down ‘glacier valley’, ending with the Olivine Ice Plateau, a unique glacial amphitheatre located deep in the remote wilderness of Mt Aspiring National Park.
On route to Milford Sound, your scenic flight soars over Mt Tutoko, which is the highest peak in Fiordland National Park at 2,723 metres. Mt Tutoko is home to the spectacular Donne and Age Glaciers, which are inaccessible except to the most intrepid mountaineers. You will soon catch your first glimpse of Milford Sound, one of New Zealand’s top natural attractions and the perfect photo opportunity. Your Milford & Big 5 Glaciers Scenic Flight then takes a return route back to Queenstown, via Arthur Valley and Lake Te Anau.
