Description

The Gibbston Valley Canyon is an awesome introduction to canyoning with loads of water play! Your Canyoning New Zealand guides drive you 40 minutes into the Gibbston Valley where the tour begins. On route, you will pass the iconic Kawarau bungy, home to AJ Hackett and through the wine country of Gibbston Valley. After being kitted out with your canyoning equipment, you are provided with a full safety briefing and demonstration from your guide.

It's a short 15 minute walk to the start of the canyon where your adventure begins on a natural waterslide, so sit back and enjoy the ride! With abseils of up to 10 metres next to gushing waterfalls, natural water slides and down climbs, you will really experience the fun of canyoning on this tour! You'll love the empowering thrill of success as you navigate your way through the canyon.

Other Information

No previous canyoning experience is required. A full demonstration of every activity will be provided
A medium level of fitness is required.
You do not need to know how to swim but it's important that you like to be in the water & don't have a fear of water
The minimum age is 10yrs
Bring with you swimwear & a towel
Photos are available for purchase or you are welcome to bring your Go Pro with you as long as you have a head or chest mount for it
Glasses can be worn in the canyon if need be but you will need a strap to attach them to yourself so you don't lose them

Gloves would have been better. A couple of us struggled at the bottom of a waterfall slide when we were pinned in by the force of the water. Had we not had assistance, we would have been in some strife (especially if we had been the first to descend).
Apart from that, the instructor was excellent and the activity was fun. It isn’t a Sunday afternoon stroll though so not for the unfit or inactive.

Can you join/ meet in Gibbston? I'm currently staying in Cromwell?

If you are staying in Cromwell you can meet in Gibbston for the canyoning. Can I ask what date you are considering and for how many people so I can check the availability for you as tours are very popular and booked up over this summer peak period.

Hi, thanks for getting in touch about the Gibbston Valley Half Day Canyoning. This trip does not have any tight spaces to crawl through, but you will navigate yourself over and around rock spaces at times.
