Jet boat - Dart River Wilderness Jet

Q&As

Latest Questions about Jet boat - Dart River Wilderness Jet

Does the dart river jet boat safari operate in the rain?

Comments

If it's raining lightly then the Dart River Wilderness Jet in Glenorchy will operate but if it gets too heavy then it becomes too uncomfortable for the passengers and too hard for the driver to navigate safely and the trip wont go ahead. If this happens then you will be given the opportunity to reschedule to another day or offered a full refund.

Hi, wondering if this particular tour gives the 4wd drive with some sightseeing and stories about lord of the rings. When I read the review on your first page, it says it's included, then when i click on the link and gave the description, it says nothing about lord of the rings and we are not interested in the adventure canoe. So just curious...thanks

Comments

Thanks for your enquiry about the Dart River Wilderness Jet in Glenorchy, around 45 minutes from Queenstown. This trip will have some elements of Lord of the Ring commentary given it's location, however, is not a tour that is entirely about Lord of the Rings. We do have many more specific tours in the 'Lord of the Rings' section of our experiences

if we upgrade to the Funyaks option, what is the cost. and how much longer does it take?

Comments

Heya, The full day Funyaks is $339 for an adult and $239 for a child currently. It is about 8-9 hours long (approx 8am-4pm). The funyaks sells out really quickly so i would recommend booking as soon as possible for that one.

Hi did a dart river jet boat ride about 18 years ago then kayaked back up the river and through caves in a inflatable kayak/ canoe do you still do the same trip

Comments

It's called the Funyaks. You take the Dart River jet boat upstream and then paddle back downstream in the Funyaks, inflatable kayaks. Great fun!! You can get free return transfers from Queenstown or you can drive yourself to Glenorchy which is 55 minutes from Queenstown.

Hi me and partner are 70+. the walk on the dart jet trip, how hard is it.

Comments

Hi Tony, the walk on the Dart River Safari is a 30 minute walk through native forest. There are plenty of photos stops and the walk is more of a meander so it isn't strenuous and very gentle but you will need supportive footwear for the rolling track. If you are comfortable being on your feet for 30 minutes walking then you will be absolutely fine.

My Wife and I will be in Glenorchy on the 3rd. or 4th. of March 2014.
Is it possible to join the Dart Rivrer Safari from there.
If so, at what cost per person.
Regards
Bill

Comments

Hi Bill. Yes, you are more than welcome to meet at the Dart River Jet Safaris shop in Glenorchy rather than taking the free transfers from Queenstown. The price is still the same at $219 per adult. You will need to check in at 8.30am for the morning tour or 12.30pm for the afternoon trip. There is currently space on the 3rd and 4th January at this stage however this is a very busy time of year and both days will book out soon so I recommend booking asap via our site. Once you book online we will email your booking confirmation to you.

We would like to do the funyaks option with our daughter who is 9 1/2yrs. Can 3 of us ride the one kayak?

Comments

Hi Shane, yes the 3 of you certainly would be able to go in the one Funyak. Three adults wouldn't fit but you'll be fine with two adults and your daughter.

My husband and I are looking at taking the Dart River Safaris on 1/10/13. The Shotover boat looks really fun too. Can we do both? or is the boat on the Dart River tour the same?

Comments

Hi Sheri. Yes you can certainly do both jet at tours while in Queenstown and we do actually recommend that you book both as they are very different jet boat rides. The Dart River Jet Boat Safari is a scenic half day trip through the stunning Mt Aspiring National Park where as the Shotover Jet is a 30 minute thrilling ride through the narrow Shotover Canyons. I recommend booking the Dart Safari at 8am and then the Shotover Jet at 3pm which will give you time to grab some lunch in town in between rides.

Hi - Do you stop anywhere for a bite to eat on the 6 hour trip?

Comments

Hi June, the Dart River Safari does not include any meals so you may like to take a snack with you.  Generally, you will have completed this trip in 4 hours, either before or after lunch. It's a 45 minute drive from Queenstown to Glenorchy and then the boat ride is 1.5 hours.

My husband and I will be in New Zealand in March. Your Dart river safari with funyaks has been recommended. My husband was injured in an accident and has no use of his left hand. I can paddle and guide a canoe. Would we have trouble navigating the funyak? Thank you.

Comments

Hi Anita. I have spoken to the manager at Funyaks and this will not be a problem. As long as your husband is able to get in and out of the canoe (funyak) then you will be able to paddle and steer from the back and he can sit in the front and enjoy the ride. If necessary, one of the guides can join you both in the funyak to help make things a little easier for you.

waht clothing is required for this journey in September and do you pick up from Queenstown

Comment by: Belinda on 22nd Aug 12 at 21:21

Hi Belinda, although you may get a sunny day it can still be very cold in September so we suggest still taking along a jacket, hat and gloves if it is on the cold side. The wind chill will be cold as the boat travels at speeds of up to 80km/h so make sure you have plenty of layers on. Yes, Dart Safaris do pick up from Queenstown
